FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
92 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
This is, without question, one of the best sub$20 Hawkes Bay Syrah buys we have come across in a very long time. Vinted as a side project by well known Marlborough based winemaker, Tim Adams, this supple, broody wine was produced from a small parcel of fruit from the famed Ohiti Road sub region. It is jam packed with savoury flavours in the plum and red fruit spectrum and that concentration flows through the palate to a long and persistent finish.
It is both truly delicious and absolutely fantastic value - an automatic case buy for anyone who enjoys quality Hawke's Bay Syrah and those canny buyers looking for an affordable option that is 100% dinner party worthy. Climb in.
Cameron Douglas writes "A fragrant expression - with aromas of red peppercorn and plum, raspberry and wood spice, some pepper and barrel toast brown spices. On the palate - a dry wine with flavours of red cherry and raspberry, red plum and sweet peppercorn, calm yet well managed oak spice and fine tannins. Medium+ acidity, no mistaking that this is Syrah. Balanced and well made in a drink now style."
Sam Kim writes "It's delightfully ripe and elegantly perfumed on the nose showing dark cherry, dried herb, warm spice and cedar characters. The medium-full-bodied palate is succulent and supple with beautifully rounded mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins, leading to a lengthy silky finish. It's flavoursome and polished, offering gorgeous drinking."
