FIVE STARS 19/20 | Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
94 POINTS | Bob Campbell MW
The Plume is the flagship range from Lake Chalice, one of Marlborough's most-admired producers. Fruit for this wine is sourced from a single vineyard in Lower Waihopai Valley and it's carefully picked and whole bunch pressed before wild ferment and extended barrel ageing. They then carefully select barrels to add to the blend and create a textural, complex wine.
The winery writes "Aromatic notes of popcorn, roasted hazelnuts and spice are followed through on the palate along with a subtle flinty character. Silky and luscious with a fine acid drive and good length."
Bob Campbell MW writes "Rich, concentrated Chardonnay with savoury, oyster-shell, toast, sizzled butter and spicy oak flavours. A weighty and quite complex wine that has benefited from a little bottle age. Good acidity helps drive a lengthy finish."
Decanter World Wine Awards judges write "A classy nose of cut grass, hazelnut, caffe latte and hints of spice are matched by the svelte, creamy palate with nectarine on the appetising finish."
