93 POINTS | Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Lafarge-Vial are a small, family-owned winery in the Beaujolais and are focusing on producing organic, biodynamic wines. Joie de Palais is vinted from 100% Gamay off 60 year old vines. This is their premium release and carries gorgeous dark fruit flavours and soft, velvety tannins. A very special wine.
The distributor writes "A brand new expression for Lafarge-Vial from 60 year old vines planted on steep slopes that require ploughing by horse. Frédéric Lafarge alludes to this being their "Premier Cru Fleurie". Beautiful ripe dark fruits; blackberry, cassis. Smooth, rounded and velvety with structured tannins and a lovely freshness that cuts through the richness, long finish."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes " Beautifully vibrant and precise, the 2018 Fleurie Joie de Palais wafts from the glass with a pretty bouquet of raspberries, red plums, peonies and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, lively and elegant, it's built around fine, powdery tannins and a tangy spine of acidity. Built for the cellar, this will show beautifully after four or five years of bottle aging, and it will continue to improve for a decade or more. "
