20 Year Anniversary Vintage of Henry's Seven
Henschke well and truly sits amongst the top wineries in Australia and the family-run operation has six generations of winemaking knowledge to draw from. Their vineyards were some of the first planted in the region and continue to produce some of the finest Australian wines today.
Henry's Seven (named after Henry Evens, the first man to plant grapes at Keyneton) is a sensational introduction to the Henschke range. The 2022 is a blend of shiraz, grenache, mataro and viognier. It's deliciously smooth and supple with ripe tannins and sensational texture. Bright red berry notes are nicely balanced by subtle spice and the finish is long and elegant. Absolutely superb.
72% Shiraz, 15% Grenache, 11% Mataro & 2% Viognier.
Ray Jordan writes "The beautify of the season is captured wonderfully in this excellent blend of shiraz, grenache, mataro and a tiny amount of viognier. Bright high energy red fruits with a spicy lift on the finish. Its more in the medium bodied zone but it certainly packs plenty of palate intensity delivered with a degree of finesse largely as a result of the subtle use of seasoned oak. This is a wine that has moved from its early iterations to one of more sophistication and poise."
Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot writes “Always a delicious and alluring wine…A vibrant magenta hue, we have aromas of chocolate, dried herbs, tobacco leaves, spices, a touch of mocha and cassis. A seamless, seductive texture, there is bright acidity and good length, finishing with slightly chalky tannins. Good focus and balance throughout. This is delicious now and will be over the next five to eight years, longer in good cellars. Has the potential to improve on this score.”
The winery writes "Deep crimson with violet hues. Fragrant aromas of raspberry, plum and boysenberry are layered with notes of sage, black pepper, mace and cocoa, and floral nuances of vanilla flower. A rich and supple palate of dark plum, cherry and crushed blackberry flavours is well-balanced by vibrant acidity and fine, savoury tannins that lead to a long, peppery finish."
