GOLD MEDAL | San Fransisco International Wine Competition
FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
The 2019 release is another banger and is seriously raising the standard with Californian Chardonnays. Juicy with a rich body, full of creamy notes and refreshing acidity, this is a seriously good glass of wine, plush and fulfilling. The spicy American oak notes packed with caramel textures whilst still very fruit forward is what are making American chardonnays red hot in New Zealand and this is one of the best examples yet.
Sam Kim writes "Gorgeously ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows mango, grilled peach, vanillin oak and butterscotch characters, followed by a beautifully rounded palate delivering silky texture and fleshy mouthfeel. Soothing and comfortingly delicious."
The winery writes "Gnarly Head Chardonnay raises the bar for this classic varietal. This Chardonnay is a juicy, full-bodied wine that explodes with bright citrusy aromas of lemon zest, honeydew melon and just a hint of toasty oak. Big bold flavors of citrus and apple with a touch of vanilla ensure a perfect match with a range of cuisine, including chicken curry, grilled shrimp and spaghetti carbonara."
More subtle than Bogle ...
But in my opinion even more delicious - butterscotch and vanilla!
Another great Californian Chardonnay
