18/20 | Raymond Chan
This is elegantly expressed Wairarapa Pinot Gris with Gladstone's trademark textural mouthfeel and flavours of tangy stonefruits and ripe citrus. The 2018 is dry but maintains a fleshy palate with good fruit weight and a lick of fresh acidity on the finish. This quality wine is in fine form now but will continue to blossom over the coming 5+ years.
* Leading Wairarapa producer Gladstone Vineyard was sold in 2018. The new owners are re-positioning the winery brand and have made the hard call to liquidate current inventory as part that refresh process. Advintage has been appointed to clear these stocks. This is an important opportunity for buyers of fine quality, critically endorsed, boutique wines. Stock is limited. Move quickly to secure your share.
The winery writes " With a complex nose of Nashi pear, citrus blossom, honeysuckle, fresh gingerbread and ripe stonefruit, this is a juicy and generous wine. The elegant and textural palate weight adds richness whilst still maintaining a beautiful balance and clean finish with hints of citrus pith. A wine to be enjoyed with food.Drink now or cellar for up to six years."
Raymond Chan writes "Full, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter edged. This has a firm, rich nose with layered aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits with a dense amalgam of pear fruit, white and yellow florals and gentle honeysuckle elements with nuances of fresh herbs. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is softly rich and gently mouthfilling with rounded flavours of yellow stonefruits along with pear and honeysuckle elements, unfolding delicate herbal nuances."
