Powerhouse organic Marlborough Pinot Noir from the excellent 2015 vintage. Giesen are very proud of this release which was meticulously handled throughout its production with intense attention to detail in the both the vineyard and winery. Its a very muscular, masculine style with masses of savoury fruit weight in the dark cherry spectrum.
To make this inaugural Organic Pinot Noir, fruit was gently de-stemmed as soon as it arrived at the winery and then added to open top fermenters by gravity. A cold soak for five – to seven days allowed the early development of colour and flavour prior to fermentation. Delicate hand plunging of the ferments ensure soft extraction of tannin and colour. After 14 days maceration the fruit was gently basket pressed with the free run wine aged in French oak 300L barrels for 12 months. Following bottling this organic wine benefited from 24 months maturing in the Giesen cellar allowing the development of complexity and a silken palate.
The winery writes "This limited edition organic Pinot Noir is from the Southern Valleys, from high-density, certified organic vineyards. Every attention is lavished upon our organic vines which are hand tended, picked and sorted. This is a Pinot Noir with delicious intensity, which is realised when you take a sip with a smooth, silky texture delivering ripe cherry and wild berry flavours which finish long and elegant thanks to it’s perfect balance."
