FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
New Zealand's most popular Riesling by volume and value - in fact approximately 1 in 5 bottles of Riesling sold in New Zealand are this famous Giesen wine. Proudly medium dry and bursting with tangy citrus characters this is always one of the outright buys of the year.
Joelle Thomson writes "This is the biggest selling Riesling in New Zealand and is medium sweet with 9.5% ABV and a great balance of acidity, which comes from cool South Island nights. The 2020 vintage was a great one for quality thanks to long, warm, dry autumn weather and despite challenges thrown up by the global pandemic. This wine has a medium body, intense flavours of peach and ripe mandarin with a long, flavoursome finish and juicy texture."
The winery writes "A vivacious Riesling with succulent citrus blossom, alluring lime and sweet mandarin with a delightfully crisp, refreshing off-dry finish. This Riesling brings together outstanding fruit from two of New Zealand’s preeminent Riesling areas – Marlborough & Waipara. The fruit selected from Marlborough adds a textural element, richness, citrus flavours and ageability to the wine. Waipara gives us our fabulous floral aromatics. There is a reason this is New Zealand’s favourite Riesling – try it for yourself."
