Benchmark Chianti Classico from the famed Geografico cooperative, produced from vineyards located in the Sienese municipality of Castellina in Chianti, right in the heart of the DOCG Chianti Classico. It is mainly produced with Sangiovese grapes with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Colorino in the blend. This wine was aged for 16 months in tonneaux oak barrels and for another 2 months in the bottle before being put on the market. Dry to taste, this is savoury wine with plenty of spice and vibrancy. A benchmark example of DOCG Chianti Classico Riserva at very realistic price point. Recommended.
The winery writes "A deep ruby red colour ripe fruit with hints of garnet. It has an intensely vinous aroma with notes of ripe fruit, spices, and persistent, smooth perfumes. The flavour is pleasantly tannic, harmonious and velvety."
