Noir is the new entry level pinot from Escarpment, a Martinborough-based producer known for creating top-tier red wines. It's been barrel aged for 11 months and, while it's drinking well now, it will also flourish after a few years in the bottle. It's a complex wine with ripe red fruit flavours and excellent structure and texture.
The winery writes "The Noir label brings together 35 years of wine making experience in New Zealand, creating a soft, bright, fruit forward wine which can be enjoyed immediately or will cellar successfully for a number of years. 100% Martinborough hand harvested fruit has been open top fermented. Extended time on skins, barrel aged and bottled without filtration. Structure and texture sit perfectly with ripe fruit flavours and combine with intriguing complexity."
