FIVE STARS 95/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
93 POINTS | James Molesworth
The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Haute Pierre is a powerfully weighted Grenache Syrah blend from the Southern Rhone Valley. The 2018 reds from this region absolutely shone and this is a wonderful example of plush, generous, instantly attractive Rhone red.
Sam Kim writes "This is flatteringly gorgeous; showing dark berry, spicy oak, leather and cake spice aromas on the nose with a hint of cocoa. The palate exhibits outstanding weight and richly textured mouthfeel, wonderfully enhanced by layers of complex flavours and silky tannins."
The winery writes "To the nose, the "Haute Pierre" cuvée is characterised by strong spicy aromas, which show a rich, powerful body wrapped around with a more delicate yet tightly knit tannic framework. Rich and unctuous on the palate, the finish reveals some intense, liquorice like flavours."
James Molesworth writes "This features a range of dark plum, raspberry and boysenberry compote flavors that have a lightly mulled edge, showing hints of dried garrigue and juniper. Alluring, with a nice caressing feel on the finish."
