4.5 STARS | Michael Cooper
Stylish, meticulously handled, small batch Hawkes Bay Cabernet - produced with care and beautifully presented by Julz Brogden. This is premium, barrel fermented Cabernet with concentration and power that really sets it apart from the rest.
A combination of old and new world winemaking techniques ensures the dark fruits dominate and produce soft supple wines with core acidity, structure and tannin. Aging for 20 months in new and older French oak barrels has added structure and depth while ensuring the varietal characters remain true.
Michael Cooper writes "The youthful 2018 vintage (4.5*) is a rare red (963 bottles), grown in Hawke's Bay, matured for two years in French oak barrels (30 per cent new), and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dark, fragrant and mouthfilling, it has strong, vibrant blackcurrant and spice flavours, a hint of herbs, fresh acidity and good tannin backbone. A very ageworthy red, it's well worth cellaring to 2023+."
