FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Produced by celebrated winemaker Ant Mackenzie from a small parcel of fine Hawke's Bay Syrah, this is a vibrant, 'alive' wine with dark savoury fruits that are complemented with spice / anise notes. It's a lovely example of very clean 'lo fi' winemaking with flavours that dance over the palate with freshness and poise.
This wine was fermented and aged on its skins. No SO2 used. It is unflitered.
This is a natural wine - don't be worried if there is a bit of sediment at the bottom or if it's bit cloudy, that's how it's supposed to be!
Vinted from Hawkes Bay Syrah, this delightful wine shows well rounded, savoury flavours with some spicy Christmas cake complexity.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Showing pristine fruit notes as well as enticing complexity, the wine offers Black Doris plum, thyme, smoked game and dried flower aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that's silky and flowing. It's well structured by grainy tannins, finishing superbly long and sturdy. Fermented and aged on skins. No SO2 added, and no filtration."
