Marzemino is a native of Italy and produces a wine that is supple, rustic and softly textured. After over 10 years of trials Church Road has released their take on this unique varietal. A definite must try for those who enjoy something a little different. Delicious.
Winemaker Chris Scott writes: "Possibly the only wine of this variety you will find in New Zealand, Marzemino is rare even in its home country of Italy where it is grown in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of north eastern Italy. There is mention of this wine in Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni", where it's referred to as "Eccellente Marzemino". In Hawke's Bay the variety produces deeply coloured red wines with supple tannins and a rustic element that works well with food."
Church Road's McDonald Series is a celebration of pioneering winemaker Tom McDonald's entrepreneurial spirit. The wines are complex, textural and full of character!
