GOLD MEDAL | Decanter World Wine Awards 2020
95/100 | Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 "Lovely stuff."
A massive 95pts at the highly prestigious Decanter Awards speaks volumes of the opportunity at hand here.
Since 1464, the Chateau Bourdieu vineyard has flourished on the terroirs of the right bank of the Gironde. Now owned by the Schweitzer family, it covers 75 hectares of AOC Blaye Ctes de Bordeaux and this 2019 release has been lauded as one of the Chateau's best to date. It is a classic blend of 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon & 3% Malbec - and with average vine age hovering around 35 years, it shows rounded flavours in the plum and black cherry spectrum. Tannins are supple and quite refined and a lick of creamy acidity on the finish keeps those lovely fruit characters in check. This is delightful wine at a compelling price point. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Vinited from 89% merlot, 8% cabernet sauvignon, 3% malbec.
Decanter World Wine Awards judges write "Pristine definition of pure and driving damson, cherry and plum, with understated vanilla oak. Deep and long, the palate reveals a cascade of fleshy black fruits over ripe, fine-grained tannins and fruit-bonded acidity. Lovely stuff."
