Butterworth Estate (formerly Julicher) is now owned by renowned sailor Brad Butterworth and his love of the sport has made its way through to their wines. The logo is a J-Knot - the strongest knot you can tie - and it's also a nod to Julicher and the history of the winery. We're not the only ones who are big fans of this range, the Butterworth wines were the toast of Auckland during the Americas Cup earlier this year and the new releases have been receiving rave reviews.

There is something very special about Te Muna Pinot Noir and this is an exceptional release from the Butterworth winemaking team. The palate is savoury with hints of red berries and a touch of spice. Soft tannins add interest and lead into a long, dry finish.

Tasting Notes

The winery writes "Lifted aromatics of wild raspberry and blackberry, while cinnamon, nutmeg spice and an earthiness jump from the glass. The palate is spicy, with great length and beautifully delicate tannins. This is an unfined pure expression of our vineyard’s best Pinot Noir vines. Blended together to create a distinctive, complete and satisfying wine."

Cameron Douglas MS writes "Complex, immediately varietal, fruity, woody and fresh with aromas of old strawberry and brown sugar, silty stony earthy qualities, cherries, autumn roses and baking spices of cinnamon and cedar, vanilla and a touch of clove. Equally complex on the palate with flavours of strawberries and berries, silty earth flavours and firm chalky tannin textures. Contrasting acidity, integrating and showing complexity with layers of flavours and textures. Dry lengthy finish, well made and ready to drink from late 2021 through 2026+."

NZ Wine Rater writes "An alluring intense perfumed bouquet that's rich, and generous, red liquorice, spicy, cherry compote, chestnuts, and lots of oak. Supple, crunchy, flavours of salted liquorice, seaweed, strawberries with perfect tannins giving balance, energy, and drive with a lovely acid thread. Excellent balance, a modern, generous robust wine."
