FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
92 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
Butterworth Estate (formerly Julicher) is now owned by renowned sailor Brad Butterworth and his love of the sport has made its way through to their wines. Their new logo is a J-Knot - the strongest knot you can tie - and it's also a nod to Julicher and the history of the winery. We're not the only ones who are big fans of this range, the Butterworth wines were the toast of Auckland during the Americas Cup earlier this year and the new releases have been receiving rave reviews.
The Regatta rosé is vinted from 100% Martinborough Pinot Noir and delivers on those delicious strawberry and cream characters that we love in this type of rosé. Plenty of stunning fruit flavours on the palate but these are cleaned up by a fresh line of acidity. A top pick for summer 2021.
The winery writes "Glycerol richness from the time in barrel on the palate is immediately evident, with the pure acid line adding another dimension to the wine. Clean lines and purity are the keys to this wine."
Sam Kim writes "It's restrained and elegantly expressed, showing ripe strawberry, lemon peel, floral and subtle spice characters on the nose. The palate delivers excellent weight and flow, together with refined mouthfeel and bright acidity, finishing gorgeously long and appealing."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Plush, juicy and fleshy bouquet of rosé with aromas of sweet red cherry and apple flesh, tropical fruit and floral moments. On the palate - equally plush and fleshy with a vibrant and youthful core of fruit, contrasting acidity adding crunch and texture. Lovely mouthfeel and finish, balanced and well made."
