Exceptional Hawkes Bay Syrah from Matt Thomson - one of New Zealand's most respected wine professionals. This debut Blank Canvas Syrah scored an impressive 18 points in JancisRobinson.com’s New Zealand Assemblage tasting. It's a fabulous example of modern New Zealand winemaking with the Syrah component co-fermented with 7.5% Gruner Veltliner skins. Must try wine.
Bob Campbell, MW writes “Matt believes he has achieved a “world first” by co-fermenting this Syrah with Grüner Veltliner rather than the usual candidate, Viognier. Extra structure was achieved by fermenting the wine with 60% whole-bunch fruit. The result is a dense and firmly structured wine with pepper, juniper, plum and new leather flavours. A very complex Syrah.”
