FIVE STARS | Angie Atkinson, The Wine Writer
4.5 STARS 91/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
We're pretty excited about this new release from Black Cottage. It's gorgeous, weighty Marlborough Chardonnay with opulent layers of bottled peach and creamy oak complexity coming from full malo-fermentation. A clean line of fresh acidity finishes things off. With glowing reviews from two top NZ critics and a price tag under the magical $15 barrier, this really does tick every box on our chardonnay superbuy checklist. Get in there.
Sam Kim writes "Youthfully charming and attractively styled, the inviting bouquet shows ripe nectarine, rockmelon, vanilla and roasted cashew characters. The palate offers gorgeous fruit intensity together with creamy mouthfeel and juicy acidity, finishing long and smooth. Well rounded and delectably expressed."
Angie Atkinson writes "A single vineyard expression from the Wairau Valley subregion of Marlborough. The wine spends time on fine lees, has gone through full malolactic fermentation and is aged in French oak. A vegetarian and vegan friendly wine. I’m in love! This wine smells like a bowl of freshly cut peach, nectarine, just ripe apricot, and apple with underlying hints of sweet oak spices. An elegant and structured wine with gorgeous lively acidity, soft stone fruit, and ripe citrus notes are found on the bright and lively palate. Amazing value for money."
