18/20 | Candice Chow for Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Few Hawkes Bay wines enjoy the popularity of Black Barn Rosé; from the very moment it lands instore it flies out the door. Always sitting at the drier end of the scale it's the perfect mix of savoury berry fruit notes notes and youthful fruit exuberance and is equally at home with or without food.
The 2021 release is right on the money - vinted from 100% merlot in a deliciously dry and refreshing style with those savoury complexities adding weight and interest to this classic Hawke's Bay wine. Get in quick. This one always sells out before summer's over.
Produced from Estate grown Merlot grapes, this fresh crisp wine is deliciously dry with flavours of strawberry and pomegranate. It's clean and tangy and perfectly suited as an aperitif or in any alfresco setting. Stunning summer wine.
Cameron Douglas writes "Made from 100% Merlot fruit. Aromas of red apple, peach and orange papaya with a fresh rose and fruit tea scent. Silky smooth on the palate with a core of fruit flavours, contrasting acidity and crisp, refreshing finish. Flavours of red apple and peach mirror the nose. Some very fine fruit tannins and light mealy texture long with a crushed stone mineral flavour engage the palate right on the finish. Balanced, well made and ready. Best drinking from purchase and through the end of summer 2023. Very bright with an oily salmon, onion skin and copper rose appearance."
Candice Chow writes "Bright, even, peach-pick with a rose-gold hue. The nose is generously full, packed with aromas of berry mix, peaches and delicate white spice. Medium-bodied, berry mix and peaches interweave grapefruit, along with zesty spice and white pepper linger to a dry finish. The palate is smooth and vibrant, flows with good energy and lively acidity. This is a juicy, smooth-flowing rosé with plenty of fruit and vibrancy. Serve as an aperitif or match with parma ham wrapped melon for the next 2-3 years."
Sam Kim writes "Gorgeously restrained and elegant, the wine shows subtle notes of crunchy apple, raspberry and floral with a hint of flinty complexity. It's focused and linear on the palate delivering bright fruit flavours combined with fine texture and vibrant acidity, finishing long and delightfully crisp-dry."
Even better than last year!
