RICH AND REWARDING BF CHARDONNAY FROM A TOP HAWKES BAY CHARDONNAY VINTAGE.
This premium Hawkes Bay Chardonnay comes with a proven pedigree and, once again, winemaker Dave McKee has delivered a masterclass with this 2019 release. This is a powerful barrel fermented wine whose natural generosity is balanced with a delightful seam of fresh acidity. The palate is mouth filling and persistent. World class wine and our clear favourite from the trusted Black Barn portfolio.
The winery writes "Our most awarded wine. With aromas of stone fruit and citrus, layered with toast and spice from 100% barrel fermentation and extended barrel ageing."
Sam Kim writes "Splendidly elegant and poised, this impressively composed chardonnay shows ripe peach, rockmelon, lemon pith, nougat and roasted hazelnut characters on the nose with a hint of flinty complexity. The palate delivers outstanding concentration and brilliant focus, together with rounded mouthfeel and bright acidity, leading to a superbly long, linear finish."
Cameron Douglas writes "Full, rich and toasty bouquet with aromas of French oak barrel and clove spices, roasted yellow orchard fruits, ripe grapefruit, cashew nut and silty earthy soil notes. Complex and bold. On the palate - a mirror of what the nose suggests with roasted peaches and citrus, apple and pear flavours then textures from the wood tannins and warming alcohol balanced by the acid-line and core of ripe fruit. Lengthy finish, still in development mode though - so do give the wine some time in your cellar if you can."
