Uvggio is the latest release from Lorraine Leheny and Warren Gibson at Bilancia and sits in their reserve-level range. Translating from Italian to 'field blend / field wine', Uvaggio is a blend of viognier, marsanne and roussanne. The fruit all comes from the iconic La Collina vineyard and was hand-picked during the 2020 'covid vintage'.
After harvest it was whole bunch pressed then transferred to French oak barriques for 11 months. The result is a lush, full wine that is truly captivating. Ready to drink now but will blossom with a few years in the cellar.
The winery writes "The 2020 Uvaggio is Viognier dominant by variety however, the wine shows the strength of characters of the blend. Floral, perfumed aromatics from Viognier tempered by the honeysuckle fruit character of the Marsanne and white flowers of Roussanne. The palate has lush, floral fullness together with deep set acidity giving both length and weight."
