4.5 STARS 91/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
We absolutely loved this one. Produced by Barone Montalto in Sicily and imported to NZ by Steve Bennett MW, this is a stunning example of Nero d'Avola. Fruit was left on the vine until it is partially raisined and the drying continues in specialised cellars after harvest which allows those fruit flavours to concentrate and develop a delicious sweetness. The resulting wine has layer after layer of soft fruit sweetness with velvet mouthfeel and delicious spice. Sensational buying with the Advintage Advantage.
Sam Kim writes "Made from slightly dried Nero d'Avola grapes, this is sweetly ripe and enticing on the nose with dark plum, mixed berry compote, vanilla and cake spice aromas. The palate delivers fleshy texture and velvety mouthfeel, well supported by succulent fruit flavours and spicy nuances."
The winery writes "Red wine, dark and intense. Opulent nose of candied figs and ripe fruit, full bodied, balanced both in roundness and persistence."
