Balvenie's 'DoubleWood' 12 year old expression is, as you may well have guessed, aged in two kinds of oak casks. It is firstly matured in used American oak casks before being treated to a finish in new European oak Oloroso sherry butts for the final nine months.
This expression was first launched in 1993, and has become an iconic bottling over the years. At 12 years old, it is a rich and complex dram and a wonderful example of what this great speyside distillery can craft.

Sweet with very good body. There are bourbon characters that develop, gentle spice with a little vanilla, a hint of nicely balanced peat lurking. Notes of dried fruit, combining with nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon. Finish is spicy, slightly drying, but still sweet.
