Artezin are a small US producer that specialise in creating old vine zinfandel in the Mendocino and Sonoma counties in the US. Vinted from 86% zinfandel, 12% petite sirah and 2% carignan, this is a big, bold wine with rich red and black fruit flavours on the palate and hints of spice. 100% barrel fermentation has added complexity and oak notes with soft tannins in support.
An excellent rendition of the varietal and a must buy for zin-heads.
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully styled and complex, it's splendidly lifted on the nose showing dried cherry, vanilla, hazelnut and cake spice aromas, leading to a wonderfully flavoursome palate offering plush mouthfeel and velvety tannins. Sweetly ripe with savoury nuances, it's gorgeously drinkable."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Five spice and blackberry fruits, dark plum and sweet oak with toasty vanilla and clove suggestions. Some cassis and blue fruit layers as well as tart cherry. Luscious and salivating on the palate with firm, ripe tannins and medium+ acidity accentuating the tart side of the fruits then flavours of dark berries return along with spice and texture. A lovely wine, perfect for food or on its own."
The winery writes "Ruby red in color this wine has indigo blue and violet hues. There is a concentration of delicious, bright pomegranate and boysenberry aromas followed by mouthwatering blackberry pie crust. Flavors are led by bright raspberry and red cherry cola, all of which are framed by a subtle pepper note. The cheerful fruit is complemented by baking spice, most notably clove and cinnamon, with soft, mouth-watering tannins delivering a round, balanced finish."
