FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Ant Moore's new a+ range focuses on creating premium, small batch wines that capture the bright, vibrant notes of the Marlborough fruit.
Premium Wairau Valley fruit was used for this excellent 2021 Chardonnay. The juice was fermented with wild yeast in French Oak Barriques which has created interesting textures and an element of complexity. Those delicious stonefruit flavours have come out to play with light toasty oak and vanilla flavours in support. It's an excellent example of 'one size fits all' chardonnay; those classic big, creamy chardonnay characters are there in force but there's plenty of vibrant fruit characters for those that prefer a brighter style. A true crowd-pleaser.
Sam Kim writes "Wonderfully fruited and complex, the bouquet shows golden peach, rockmelon, vanillin oak and brioche characters, leading to a gorgeously rounded palate that’s richly textured and lingering. It’s plush and flavoursome with a lengthy delectable finish."
The winery writes "This rich Chardonnay has brioche and crème brulée aromas with juicy peach flavours, perfectly integrated subtle oak and an elegant finish. Pair with an organic barbecued smoked chicken for a match made in heaven."
