90/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Patience has certainly paid off for Anciano. Handpicked fruit from 30 year-old vines was used for this medium to full bodied Spanish Tempranillo. This is now smooth, ripe and drinking beautifully.
Another cracker import from Steve Bennett MW, this is the perfect partner for your next Sunday roast. Climb on in.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "This is immediately appealing on the nose with dark cherry, toasted spice, smoked meat and almond notes, leading to an elegantly flavoursome palate that's juicy and finely textured. Beautifully rounded and supple with fine-grained tannins, finishing lingering and attractively dry."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Aromas and flavours of dark berries and spicy red meats, button mushrooms and plums. Fleshy and fruity, taut and dry, a classic dry red wine from the region with a lighter tickle of tannins, medium acidity, and a core of red fruits. Well made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2027+."
The winery writes "An intense red shading to tawny at the rim. A range of different characteristics can be identified on the nose – black cherry fruit, balsamic, leather, tobacco and vanilla oak. Medium to full bodied with real finesse, concentrated red fruit flavours, mellow tannins and a smooth finish."
