Alpha Domus First Solo Chardonnay 2012

(1)
Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

20th BIRTHDAY SUPERDEAL | Luxuriously creamy, bottle-aged, barrel fermented Hawkes Bay Chardonnay.

We're famous for our robust bottle aged Chardonnay superdeals and this one will go down as one of the greats. Vinted by longstanding Alpha Domus winemaker Kate Galloway, First Solo 2012 is a powerful statement that showcases the capability of quality Hawkes Bay Chardonnay to age well.

This wine was produced to go the distance and it has. Vinted from handpicked Estate grown fruit, First Solo has been 100% barrel fermented in a combination of French and European oak and it has been given every attention in the winery to build palate weight and texture. Now mature, it is golden in the glass and bursts with rich stonefruit and cashew notes with rich caramel and creamy lemon brulee flavours in support. The finish remains fresh and clean with good acid structure. It is divine - a wine that is sure to impress our bottle aged / barrel fermented Chardonnistas and the 2012 will hold in this peak drinking window over the coming 2 years.

Tasting Notes
The winery writes "This is a long, rich, well balanced wine with flavours of orange zest, ripe stone fruit and citrus. Barrel fermentation and lees stirring contributes vanillin, cream and toasted almond notes. Aromas of cinnamon spice, rock melon, citrus and crème brulee. Hints of biscuit, toasted chestnuts and mineral characters add complexity."

Nicely aged and drinking very well

Style more like Martinborough than Hawkes Bay. Elegant Chardonnay with a nice long finish, so very "more-ish".
