FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
93 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
Rua Pinot Noir has picked up a number of Trophies and Gold Medals over the last few vintages and we fully expect the 2020 to add to that haul. Loaded with ripe berries and supple mouthfeel, this is immediately attractive wine; generous and fulsome with great drink now appeal. You will be hard pressed to find a better value Central Otago Pinot under the $25 barrier.
The winery writes "An abundance of bright red fruits, and lifted floral aromas, with a touch of savouriness. This Central Otago Pinot Noir is lavishly layered with sweet, ripe, red berries, underpinned with savoury characters and a touch of spice. Supple tannins flow softly across the palate. These are balanced by the wines acidity, leading to a long fruit driven finish."
Sam Kim writes "Fabulously fruited and sweetly aromatic, the bouquet shows dark plum, ripe cherry, floral and subtle spice characters, leading to a beautifully rounded palate offering succulent fruit flavours together with fine texture and silky tannins, making it instantly appealing."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Aromas of plump, ripe red cherries, dark roses, brown baking spics and red currant. Mild French oak scents of vanilla and bacon, a whisper of clove and toasted barrel. Fleshy red berry fruit centric flavours on the palate with cherries and red apple, raspberry and plum. Moderate tannin presence with a firm youthful texture, medium+ acidity and fruit flavours that mirror the nose. Delicious, fresh, youthful and tasty example. A great by the glass option in restaurants and well suited to a variety of cuisines."
